Kindergarten Registration and Program Options

Lake Forest School District 67 offers three kindergarten program options: Half Day, Extended-Day, and Extended-Day Mandarin Immersion. The Half- and Extended-Day programs are offered at all elementary schools. The Extended-Day Mandarin Immersion option is offered at Cherokee School. Brief descriptions of each program are provided below. Please contact your school office to request a registration packet or (during the summer) you may contact the district office (847-235-9657).

Curriculum
The Half- and Extended-Day Programs cover the identical curriculum in language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, fine arts, wellness, technology, and information literacy. The Extended-Day Program allows additional time for extended learning opportunities, subject area interactive experiences, and problem solving projects. The Extended-Day Mandarin Immersion Program offers daily instruction in both English and Mandarin in the same curricular areas as the Half- and Extended-Day Programs. Detailed information about the Mandarin Immersion Program can be found on our website.

Half-Day Program Registration
Parents electing the half-day program will be allowed to indicate a preference for either the morning or afternoon section, however, this will not guarantee placement. Enrollment will determine the need for both a morning and afternoon section at each school. If enrollment numbers only indicate the need for one section, it will be held in the morning.

Extended-Day Program Registration
Extended-Day
Parents electing the Extended-Day Program will indicate their preference on the enrollment form. The maximum enrollment for an Extended-Day class is 22 students/class and the minimum is 15 students/class. If enrollment is sufficient, there will be at least one class of Extended-Day kindergarten at each elementary school. If there is more interest than space available, enrollment will be determined using a lottery system. The lottery will take place on February 21st. If the program is not available at your school due to lack of enrollment, you will have the opportunity to transport your child to another school, subject to lottery selection.

Extended-Day Mandarin Immersion
Parents electing the Extended-Day Mandarin Immersion Program will indicate their preference on the enrollment form. Enrollment will be limited to two classes of 20 students each. If enrollment exceeds capacity, a lottery will take place on February 21st. Parents should select a first and second program option, if their child is not placed in the Mandarin Immersion Program.

Fees
There is no tuition for enrollment in the Half-Day Program. Parents will receive a fee packet in the summer outlining District 67 fees, which cover consumable materials, technology, and transportation. The Extended-Day and Extended-Day Mandarin Programs are tuition-based and the Board of Education will set the tuition amount in the spring. The 2011-12 tuition was $4,800. District 67 fees are in addition to the tuition for the Extended-Day Programs.
