National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs)
Lake Forest School District 67 has the honor and distinction of having 27 National Board Certified Teachers – more per student population than any other district in Illinois. Nationally, our state ranks fifth in total number of NBCTs.
The Five Core Propositions: The Foundation for Excellence
- Core Proportion 1: Teachers are committed to students and their learning.
National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) recognize individual differences in their students and adjust their practices accordingly.
- Core Proposition 2: Teachers know the subjects they teach and how to teach those subject to students.
Accomplished teachers have mastery over all the subject matter content they are responsible for teaching as well as a deep and rich contextual knowledge. They have an understanding of the history, structure, and real-life applications of those subjects.
- Core Proposition 3: Teachers are responsible for managing and monitoring student learning.
NBCTs use multiple and varied instructional resources. These teachers move fluently through a range of instructional techniques, keeping students engaged and focused.
- Core Proposition 4: Teachers think systematically about their practice and learn from experience.
NBCTs are familiar with learning theories and instructional strategies. They actively evaluate current issues in American education.
- Core Proposition 5: Teachers are members of learning communities.
NBCTs actively seek partnerships with community groups and businesses. These accomplished teachers work creatively with their students parents and other family members to improve learning opportunities.
