2012-2013 School Year

Cherokee 2nd graders created virtual postcards from Canada as one way of showing their creativity and what they have learned from their Canada unit. Please visit the Cherokee 2nd grade teachers websites to view more of these virtual postcards!

Sheridan School had the opportunity to have a professional tap dancer, Ian Berg, visit each of the Wellness classes to speak with students about dancing; specifically ballet, modern jazz and tap. Ian taught the students three different tap steps, and then ended each class with a tap performance. Ian is a LFHS grad and a freshman at the Boston Conservatory.

Kindergartners at Cherokee School created their very own classroom ABC book during ILI . They were assigned a letter, looked for pictures that started with that letter, created a background, and added their own voice to the book!

Second graders from Miss Maines' class at Sheridan School learned to sing Jingle Bells as part of their Latin instruction with Mrs. Harper. Click here to view Mrs. Donoval's class.

Mrs. Volpe’s first grade class at Sheridan used the
multimedia program Pixie 3 to illustrate their ideas of what snowmen do at night based on the book Snowmen at Night by
Caralyn Buehner and Mark Buehner.

Spirit Grants in Action
Elementary science classes across the district (grades 1-4) benefit from the Pro-Scope/iPad Grant. Students get an up-close look at things that they would't be able to see with just their eyes using the newest technologies. The Proscope allows students to capture and store microscopic images and take microscope video footage for later viewing and analysis.

This slideshow features students from Cherokee Elementary School during the first days of school, at the school picnic, and enjoying the APT Fine Arts Presentation (Charlotte's Web). First graders are also shown during their experiential learning about farms. New this year, in addition to the culminating learning event of a field trip to a farm, the farm came to first grade for some hands-on lessons, including how to press apples into cider and how to identify various grains.
