Task 1: Earthquake History

Click on the year of your choice and explain the earthquake that took place then.

1. What our ancient ancestors believed about earthquakes

2. What Aristotle believed.


Task 3: Quiz. Test yourself and list the score on your WebQuest handout.


Task 5: New Madrid Earthquakes.

Tell about the New Madrid earthquake. (Read: "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On") Scroll down the page and read one of the eyewitness accounts and discuss three or four key points that struck you. There are newspaper accounts too.


Task 6: Become a Seismologist.-Scroll down the page and click on Execute Virtual Earthquake.

Calculate the earthquake's epicenter and how it measures on the Richter scale. Turn in your certificate for credit.


Ask a geologist if you still have questions and turn in for extra credit.
